Are Carpet Cleaning Products Safe for Children and Pets?

For families with young children and pets in the UAE, carpet cleaning product safety is not a minor concern — it is a primary consideration. Children spend significant time on the floor, and pets are in constant contact with carpet surfaces. Any chemical residue left after cleaning can be absorbed through skin contact, inhaled as the carpet dries, or ingested by babies who put their hands in their mouths after touching the floor.

At Al Haya, all our cleaning products are non-toxic, biodegradable, and free from the harsh chemicals found in many commercial cleaning solutions. We do not use products containing chlorine bleach, ammonia, formaldehyde, phthalates, or volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The concept of eco-friendly carpet cleaning goes beyond just the cleaning solution. Our entire process is designed to minimise chemical impact: we use the minimum effective concentration of cleaning product, our extraction process removes the cleaning solution along with the dissolved dirt (rather than leaving it in the carpet), and our products biodegrade completely within days. After cleaning and drying, there is no active chemical residue remaining on the carpet surface.

For parents of young children, the most important safety factor is what remains on the carpet after it dries. Many conventional carpet cleaning products leave behind surfactants (detergent residues) that continue to attract dirt and can irritate sensitive skin on prolonged contact. Our rinse-and-extract process removes both the cleaning agent and the dissolved soil, leaving the carpet fibres genuinely clean — not coated in residue.

Pet safety considerations include both direct contact and the risk of pets licking or chewing carpet fibres. Dogs and cats are closer to the floor than humans and inhale more of any airborne residues during the drying period. Our products are specifically tested to be safe for animal contact. Additionally, our enzyme-based pet odor treatments use natural enzymes rather than chemical deodorizers, making them safe for continued pet contact with the treated area.
