Vegetable dyes can bleed or migrate when exposed to excessive moisture, high temperatures, or alkaline cleaning solutions. This is why standard carpet cleaning methods — which use hot water, strong shampoos, and aggressive agitation — are completely unsuitable for handmade rugs.

Proper Persian rug cleaning uses a low-moisture approach with pH-neutral solutions that are safe for natural dyes. The cleaning agent is applied sparingly using soft tools — never machine-agitated — and worked gently into the pile without saturating the rug.
